Painting The Outside

The warm weather arrived in June, rainy days were further apart and I was ready to get the outside painted before the maiden voyage at the end of June. The skin of the trailer has many dents and spraying the paint would highlight the dents too much. I went with a low sheen paint and the "$50 Paint Job" for painting the outside. Two coats of white and 3 coats of red. Oil base paint thinned out and rolled on.

First the prep work. The doors needed the old paint removed and a few holes filled in.

Steel wool and BRASS not steel wire wheel for paint removal.

Previous owners sealed around the windows, doors and corners with silicon seal. It took a bit of careful removal but well worth the effort.

Ready For Paint

Rims need to be cleaned and painted at later date.

Let The Painting Begin

Waiting For Warm Weather

It has warmed up for painting - And the exterior has been painted. I'll post pics of the $50 paint job later.

Also need to get axle turned back over to stock position.

The Fridge

Interior painting is all done. Now it's time to finish the Fridge area (I have learned that the cooking area in a trailer is called the galley) fridge and door + some paint. All the old ice box support was removed and an electrical outlet was installed.

Old ice box removed.

Styrofoam insulation and support framing needed to be totally removed.

All cleaned up and painted. Ready to install fridge.

We picked up a used fridge from the local used appliance store. I put it in place to see how it would fit before painting.

Took the door off and sealed of interior with blue tape and newspaper.

Painted and put the door back on.

Installed and secured with aluminum angle. Made a door and installed for old heater opening.

All done. Ready for some elbow grease here and there. Need to order a water facet and install for sink.

Updating Electrical

With the removal of the ice box and the need for a plug or two on the kitchen side of the trailer, removed all the old 110v electrical wiring and started fresh. Kept the same electrical circuit breaker box but added a circuit breaker. So there are now two circuit breakers, 1 for lighting and under kitchen cab. outlet and 1 for the fridge and outlet next to stove.

Note the old wiring diagram is still in place. Pop a new hole for the 14-2 wiring to run to lighting.Pop a new hole for 12-2 wiring for fridge. Upgrade outside feed line from 14-2 to 12-2.Ordered a new outside connection from amazon . com.

Vent Hood

Not much to write about here. Water damage did cause rust and paint to lift. We need to come up with a color scheme for the interior and we chose Rust-Oleum “Colonial Red” for the accent color and Berh “Strawhat” for the base color.
The vent screen was rusted and had holes in it.

Patience and time plus a good small HVAC screwdriver made it happen. Replace with new screen.

Power wire brushed sliding vent and hood and two coats of spray paint later.

Here it is installed on new upper cabinet. We really like the color scheme

Going to try the “Colonial Red” on the outside trim. Weather was still good so we spent a day removing butul and resealing edging strips and we put in a road trip over to Bend, Oregon to see the Vintage Trailer round up put on by Cowgirl-Bunkhouse-Vintage-Trailer-Rentals
